Jacob Anaġi Adams Sr. Receives Honorary Doctorate

The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) presented Jacob Anaġi Adams, Sr., with an honorary Doctor of Law degree at UAF’s 96th commencement ceremony this May.

As shared by our regional membership organization, VOICE of the Arctic Iñupiat, “Born in Utqiaġvik, Alaska, Jacob graduated from Mount Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska and took courses at UAF. He served as the president and CEO of the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation for more than 20 years, and as mayor for the City of Barrow and the North Slope Borough. He is a long-time member of the Barrow Whaling Captains Association and captains the Anaġi crew.”

In a message to supporters VOICE also thanked Adams for his leadership and dedication to the people of the North Slope over the past 30 years. “VOICE recognizes the importance of appreciating our Elders who inspire and motivate the next generation of leaders.”
