UIC Technical Services News Bowhead Science and Technology, LLC Receives Susquehanna Workforce Leadership Award Washington, D.C., - Bowhead Science and Technology, LLC (BST) announced today that they received the Susquehanna Workforce Leadership Award for its innovative workplace strategies which improve workers’ skills and workplace quality in Harford County. The Susquehanna Workforce Network (SWN) presented Bowhead with the award at their annual meeting in Perryville, Maryland on Friday, June 25. The award, which also includes a $1000 training certificate to Harford Community College, recognized Bowhead’s commitment to the creation and implementation of business strategies that support and benefit its employees. One of the tools the company uses to achieve this is its comprehensive performance management process that assesses employee skills and potential for future advancement. Additionally, the company has an internal job posting system that allows for career advancement. In April, Bowhead launched an on-line training tool, through which employees can pursue a wide variety of professional development opportunities. Employees may choose from four different training bundles which include, but are not limited to, courses on several IT and professional certifications, leadership and management, Microsoft Office desktop, and compliance with laws and regulations. After successfully completing any course, employees will receive a certificate of completion and may be able to apply the courses as recertification or post-secondary education credits through some institutions. “We are honored to receive this award,” said Richard Ryan, BST President. “Our employees are our most valuable asset. Their development, advancement, and overall well-being are core to our success as a company. Being recognized for the investment we make in our employees, affirms our ongoing commitment to them,” Ryan added. The award is also known as the Donald Thomey Workforce Leadership Award, renamed last year after one of the SWN founding members. Thomey was a resident of Harford County, but a business owner in Cecil County. The SWN is a non-profit corporation that oversees, coordinates, or plans workforce development programs and services for businesses and individuals in Cecil and Harford Counties. “We are proud to present the award to Bowhead for their innovative workforce practices which we feel represent the transformation we see taking place within Harford and Cecil Counties,” said Bruce England, SWN Executive Director of Communications. “Each year we select one company from both Cecil and Harford Counties to receive this award. Bowhead was selected for Harford County because it exemplified the workforce initiatives we look for in a company.” Last year, BST won two U.S. Army Research Laboratory contracts totaling $103 million to provide technical and professional services to the U.S. Army Research Laboratory Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Shortly thereafter, the company opened an office in Belcamp which is located within Chesapeake Science and Security Corridor. BST is a subsidiary of UIC Technical Services, LLC (UICTS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Alaska Native Corporation Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation of Barrow, Alaska. UICTS companies have become renowned industry leaders in providing innovative and value-added business solutions. Daria Gray |
